Medicinal Cannabis Awareness Week takes place from the 1st to the 7th of November every year
Medicinal Cannabis Awareness Week takes place from the 1st to the 7th of November every year, this year Gary Whipp founder of Medicann takes us through the full plant-to-patient journey and everything in between.
At Medicann, we work with a wide range of medicinal cannabis products that are all EU GMP-approved and grown in a controlled facility to ensure the quality of the product is always the best for our patients.
During our recent visit to one of the facilities we brought you along to see just for yourself the journey of growing the most advanced medicine there is today, observing each step from cultivation to ultimately reaching you, the patient.
Step 1: The Mother Room
The Mother Room is where it all begins —filled with the Mother plants which create the genetics for future medication. The cuttings from a female plant are extracted to grow in Rockwool so there is no soil contamination. Roughly about 100 plants can be grown per cultivar and each plant will produce at least 100 clones.
Step 2: The Cultivation Process
The cultivation habitats are completely controlled, from the right lighting to the correct temperature control, the plants are fully monitored until they are 12 weeks old. This is the final stage of the plant’s life when it has reached maximum potency and terpene levels. The plants are then sent to the drying room where the plant will be dried out and moved on to the next step.
Step 3: Trimming
The flowers are then taken tThe flowers are then taken to a fully isolated trimming room where they are hand-finished to avoid any decontamination, trichome and potency loss helping get a natural final product with no irradiation.
Step 4: Lab Testing
The flower will be then taken to the lab and will be tested for THC, and microbial count to ensure that all the trichomes are as they should be. Everything is tested throughout the plant’s lifecycle to ensure the best quality product.
Step 5: Oil Extraction
In the Extraction Facility, the raw flower is transformed into various products such as oils. This process implements strict quality control measures to guarantee the delivery of a high-quality product for patients.
Step 6: Picking & Packing
Once the medicinal cannabis is in the final form it will then be sent to be quality checked, hand packaged and labelled. This part of the process ensures that none of the trichomes are damaged, and the quantity of the final product is the correct amount.
Step 7: Patient
Once patients are deemed eligible for medicinal cannabis treatment, they can consult with their doctor, who can then prescribe medicinal cannabis. After receiving their prescription, patients can conveniently pick up their medicinal cannabis from a licensed pharmacy, taking the next step toward improving their quality of life.
