The ‘Medicann 5k Your Way’ raises £5000 for ABC Jersey as Islanders come together for World Cancer Day.
For the second year, Medicann has held an annual event to mark World Cancer Day in Jersey with the local community coming together to raise £5000 for local charity ABC Jersey.
100 fundraisers took part in the Medicann 5k, Your Way on Sunday, with patients, friends and family (no matter their ability) running, walking and biking to support one another and raise awareness for World Cancer Day.
Tuesday the 4th February was World Cancer Day, and as part of Medicann’s community event programme, the event was held in aid of ABC Jersey. In the only event of its kind on the Island, the fundraiser has helped towards improving services for Breast Cancer patients on the Island.
Sarah Burns, Ambassador of ABC Jersey commenting on the event: “I’d like to say a huge thank you for everyone’s generosity and support in helping raise money for ABC Jersey. Everyone who took part in the Medicann 5k has helped to make a real difference, and ABC truly appreciates everyone’s kindness ABC are raising funds this year to contribute towards the refurbishment of the mammography department at the general hospital and the money raised will also help go towards the creation of a quiet room”.
Medicann prescribes medicinal cannabis for a wide range of qualifying conditions, and Gary Whipp, CEO of Medicann, promised that this is just the start for the businesses community event programme.

more than ever before. The Medicann 5k, Your Way now falls part of our annual event programme and we will be planning more fundraising events this year to help patients and the local community organisations that need vital funds”.
The event was created by Gary Whipp in 2024, and he further commented: “It was such a great turn out on Sunday and I hope that everyone enjoyed it. It was so lovely to see families come together in support of World Cancer Day.”
Medicann is a local award-winning medicinal cannabis clinic that prescribes for various conditions and since being founded in 2019 has provided one to one advice to patients in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.
