Meet Andrew Kelly, a devoted single father and medicinal cannabis patient at Medicann Isle of Man, Andrew’s story challenges the stigma surrounding the plant, and he is making one thing clear, that cannabis and being a patient of Medicann is more than just a medicine—it’s a lifeline.

In this interview, Andrew shares how cannabis became an essential part of his life, and why he’s passionate about telling his story.

What struggles have you experienced with your condition?

Insomnia has always been a problem for me, and in the past I have tried melatonin and various other various sleeping aids with not much help.

Since being a patient of Medicann, I have found that vaping indica based prescription in the evening has drastically improved my sleep, and as such, this has had such a positive effect on my day to day life.

Lower back pain from a bad fall as a child has left me with life time issues that I have to monitor, and my prescription helps to ease this pain and allow a better nights sleep.

Prior to becoming a medicinal cannabis patient, I have been off work numerous times, especially on occasions when my back pain just ‘’pops up’ on me.

As cannabis is a very potent natural anti-inflammatory, my back is now much more flexible and less of a worry.

Additionally, my left shoulder was damage from a bad break over a decade ago and this has also given me many pain issues overt the years, especially in cold weather, and again medical cannabis has helped with this due to the natural pain relief and anti-inflammatory combined.

Have you tried traditional drugs prescribed by the doctors?

You won’t even find aspirin in my house, if chemicals can be avoided they are. I don’t drink alcohol or use any chemical medicines… everything is as natural as possible.

How did you feel when you didn’t get the help you needed traditionally?

I was very frustrated as I have always known about the potential of medicinal cannabis for helping different conditions like insomnia, breaking the law to be able to function daily and live my life was a risky choice.

How did you come to learn about medicinal cannabis?

I first learnt about medicinal cannabis in the Isle of Man through the local law changes, I’d also been hoping for many decades this would eventually happen.
