Medicann Patient Spotlight: A Journey with Medicinal Cannabis when managing epilepsy

Condition: Epilepsy

Tell us about your condition.
Since 2019 I have suffered from Epilepsy, having many seizures
Have you tried traditional drugs prescribed by the doctors?
Previously to medicinal cannabis, I had tried several conventional drug prescriptions to help stop seizures. I had horrible side effects. In early 2021, I ended up in the hospital as I had a rash from one of the medications I had been prescribed.

How did you feel when you didn’t get the help you needed traditionally?
Because I was allergic, I had to reduce the amount I was taking, meaning it wasn’t really working for me and I was having seizures, so I got to the point where the medication wasn’t working anyway so I started looking at alternative methods, and when I started with medicinal cannabis I completely stopped taking the epilepsy tablets I had been prescribed as I didn’t feel they were working for me anyway.

How did you come to learn about medicinal cannabis?
My mum was a patient of Medicann, for mental health and Chronic pain. I had noticed the difference it made in her, she was so anxious and this stopped her from going out.
I’d tried it myself in the past, and it levelled me out and made me feel me. Once it came to the island, Mum started, and she suggested it. So I thought I’d give it a go. Me and Mum are us again. She even made it to my baby shower when I fell pregnant after not leaving the house for so long.

How did you find your experience with Medicann?

“Medicann is amazing Dr Terry is amazing, and not just for what he has done for me but my mum as well. A lot of people I know have problems with other clinics, eg stock etc and I can’t afford to worry like that, I need a confident supply as I don’t want to have a seizure around my two-year-old. I know when different strains don’t work, and a note goes on my file and I am then not issued it. I am forever grateful to Medicann.”
