Medicann Patient Spotlight: Mike Eyres' Journey with Medicinal Cannabis

For years, Mike Eyres lived with chronic pain, poor mobility and deteriorating mental health. After exhausting traditional treatment options and feeling as though he had nowhere left to turn, he discovered prescribed medicinal cannabis.

What struggles have you experienced with your condition?

Lack of mobility and pain has been a huge factor for me since being a young teen after a rugby injury that left me with metal pins in hips and bulges on the disc in my spine. I went through all the injections and bone shaving and ended up with arthritis in my knees and cataract from the steroid injections. Insomnia has always been a problem for me as well, I can’t switch off and once I’m asleep I am awake at the slightest noise. A mix of pain and lack of sleep and general life made me down and depressed finding I became anxious at leaving the house.

Since being a patient of Medicann, I have found that vaping indica based prescription in the evening has drastically improved my sleep, and as such, this has had such a positive effect on my day-to-day life. I also use these during the day for a higher pain management as I find Sativa based cause me to be jittery.

I had tried everything doctors threw at me plus the ones to combat side effects for the pain medication. I also used to be a heavy drinker which has now stopped with thanks to medicinal cannabis.

How did you feel when you didn’t get the help you needed traditionally?

Depressed, no hope and no one to turn to.

How did you come to learn about medicinal cannabis?

I was at a very low point with drink and pharmacy medication and had given up hope. I saw an advert one day and discussed with my new Fiancée and we agreed that I give it a go and if it works perfect, if not we start again. Fortunately it worked!
